ARTICULATED CEILING

location: non-specific
year: year 5 autumn 2015
duration: 1 weeks
Group 13 ceiling design for Applied Technology In Architecture at CASS School of Architecture.
An articulated ceiling or exposed structure can give a room its character and enhance the spatial experience. We were particular drawn to the seeming lightweight and elegant spaceframe structure, our project attempted to create a strong visual expression of the structural form, emphasising the industrial quality of exposed material with standard steel sections.
Through studying precedents, drawing and making prototypes, we tested out different cladding materials, finishes and welded joint details that accentuate the weightlessness and simplicity of the spaceframe.
